Raw Material Process Engineering · B.Sc.
Mineral Process Engineering II
Classification, gravity and dense medium separation, magnetic and electrostatic separation, flotation, dewatering, material handling and sampling — followed by complete case studies of coal, copper and gold processing. Thirteen interactive lectures with sectioned machine drawings you can explore part by part, live engineering models, timed plant-practice games, recitation problems and a Mongolian summary in every lecture.
Part A · Classification and physical separation
Settling and classification, then the concentration methods that exploit density, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity — each taught from the governing physics to the machine, its sizing and its failure modes.
Part B · Flotation
The surface chemistry that decides what floats, the reagents that make it selective, and the kinetics, machines and circuits that turn a 0.5 % Cu ore into a saleable concentrate.
Part C · Dewatering, handling and accounting
From flotation pulp to a shippable concentrate and a stackable tailing; storing, feeding and transporting ore and slurry; and the sampling and metal accounting that decide what the plant is paid.
Part D · Commodity case studies
Coal, copper and gold: complete flowsheets, Mongolian operations, product specifications and the economics that connect them.
Module information
Learning outcomes
- Explain the physical and physico-chemical principles of classification, gravity, dense medium, magnetic, electrostatic and flotation separation.
- Select, size and troubleshoot the main equipment of a concentrator, from hydrocyclones and jigs to flotation cells, thickeners and filters.
- Evaluate separations with mass balances, partition curves and grade–recovery data, and design a correct sampling protocol.
- Draw and explain complete flowsheets for coal, copper and gold processing.
